Cub Scout Pack 207
A Brief History

In 1997, Liberty Christian School chartered Cub Scout 208 for the first time. Janel Poore was the Pack's first Cubmaster.

1998 led to the Re-Chartering of the pack by Liberty Christian School. This was the first year that the Pack attained Quality Unit Status in Sakima District. In September 1998, Adam Gwaltney, John McDaniel and Jeff Mathison came into the Pack as Tiger parents. These three leaders would be instrumental in keeping the Pack together, and would find themselves as future leaders. 1998 would be a year of struggle for the Pack. At the end of the year, only three scouts were active - the sons of the above-mentioned leaders.

In August of 1999, Adam Gwaltney would take over as Cubmaster, Jeff Mathison as Bear Leader and John McDaniel as an Assistant Wolf Leader. Gary Craig came into the pack as Wolf Den Leader and was instrumental in keeping that age group active. At school night in 1999, the pack would enlist 23 new scout families into the pack. Most of these families are still active! 1999 would also bring the Pack their second Quality Unit Award. 1999 ended with over thirty active scouts. Ten registered adult leaders were on staff. Pack 207 from Anderson Christian School merged into our pack in the fall of the year. Several parents from Pack 207 are now registered leaders in Pack 207. The parents from Pack 207 have been a tremendous asset to our program.

2000 was a year of tremendous growth and activity. The Pack grew to over fifty active scouts. 2000 marked another year of Quality Unit Status. First place finish in the District Klondike Derby Winter Event, and second place in the District Popcorn Sale with over $11,000 sold! The pack sent 3 Webelos scouts to Boy Scouts. Fourteen registered leaders were on staff as well as having a full Pack Committee. 2000 marked our first trip to Pokagon State Park, our first fishing trip to Kentucky and first year in sending scouts to summer camp.

2001 was a banner year. The Pack attained for the fourth year in a row, Quality Unit Status and was in the running for the first ever Sakima District Pack of the Year Award - which they won! The year 2001 saw the Pack changing our sponsor to South Meridian Church of God from Liberty Christian School. We sent five-second year Webelos scouts to Adventure camp and eighteen Cub Scouts to Day Camp. The pack sent 4 Webelos Scouts to Boy Scouts. Our Pack has remained very busy with activities every month of the year. 2001 would see the pack attain almost $12,000 in popcorn sales. Half of our profits from that sale were donated to local charities in the aftermath of September 11, 2001.

The year 2002 was absolutely fantastic! Our Pack was awarded Sakima District Pack of the Year in October of 2001. We are extremely proud of this amazing accomplishment! 2002 witnessed the Pack attain, for the fifth consecutive year, Quality Unit Status. Pack 207 has continued to make a powerful statement in our district that we are one of the best! In March of the year, the Pack sent 6 Webelos scouts to Boy Scouts. Our pack has been active in District events supplying numerous leaders to district level leadership positions. The pack remained very busy with activities such as Pokagon State Park toboggan run, Kentucky fishing trip, sending our scouts to two summer camps, a visit to Wright Patterson Air Force Base, and numerous other activities! Pack 208 had 95% of our active scouts (26) attend summer camp. Very few, if any, units reach this percentage!

During the 2002-03 School Year the leaders of the Pack began looking for a new meeting place and some scout leaders that had been mentors and friends encouraged we look at beginning a program with Wesley Free Methodist Church. All of the scouts from Pack 208 opted to continue with the program at Wesley. Our Pack number may have changed, but the strong support and excellent programs did not. As the year came to a close we say Cubmaster, Adam Gwaltney and other excellent leaders and scouts "cross over" to Boy Scouts. A good relationship had been formed with Boy Scout Troop 301. Our Pack continues the programming of field trips to Wright Patterson Air Force Museum, a Fishing Derby, and various other activities.
