The following is only a guide. Your list may or may not need to be adapted due to weather conditions, and what type of camping you will be doing. Adjust your equipment as needed keeping in mind that you want to keep your weight and bulk should be kept to a minimum.
Duffel bag (static camping) OR backpack for those who have them
Day pack to use in short hiking
Sleeping bag- in stuff sack- you will need a cold weather bag OR an additional fleece bag
Personal ground cloth, small piece of drop cloth, etc.
Sleeping pad- NOT an air mattress!
Pillow (optional) - small
Scout book in cover
Personal first aid kit
Flash light with batteries and extra bulb if you have one
Rain gear/poncho- a hooded type will be preferred
Small not pad with pencil- optional
Two 16oz. OR two 32oz. size water bottles
Minimum: 2 pair of extra socks per day- zip lock bag socks if needed (thermal/wool/acrylic)
Class "A" Scout shirt, belt, hat
Heavy-cold weather coat-with hood if possible
Knit hat with gloves- preferably 2 pair of gloves
Warm extra clothing: sweaters, long sleeved shirts, fleece wear, flannel, wool sweater, etc.
Extra trousers- blue jeans are NOT preferred, try for poly/cotton blends or wool
Extra T-shirts, under shirts
Extra under wear, even though your scout will not change them!
Long underwear- 2 pair if needed
Two 30-gal. Trash bags- to be used for wet clothing etc.
Toilet kit (in bag of some sort) including: (use your refillable containers where needed)
Tooth paste and tooth brush, also a roll of chapstick
Soap-small bar in soap dish
Shampoo (refillable container)
Mouth wash (refillable container)
Wash cloth and towel
Comb or hair brush
Toilet paper in zip lock baggie, one full roll, also a small pack of Kleenex tissues
Waterproof leather hiking boots (already broke in if NEW)- insulated if possible
Extra pair of boots (optional but highly recommended)
Deck of cards, UNO game, Chess, or Checkers, this is optional
In cold weather camping, it is vital to have the proper clothing according to weather conditions. You must know what the prevailing weather conditions will be and be prepared for those conditions. Initial all personal gear. No electronics will be allowed. Adjust your gear as adult leaders see fit.
