Den Organization and Advancement- Overview
For detailed Advancement requirements, you must read and refer to handbooks.
Tiger Cub Scout:
The Tiger den is for boys who are in the first grade OR who are 7 years of age. The Tiger Cub Scout in Pack 207 will wear the blue Cub Scout shirt with a special orange neckerchief. The Tiger Cub will go through a very basic advancement program starting with three simple achievements. When these three achievements are completed, the Cub will receive his belt totem. The Cub will go one to work on five more achievements broken into three parts each- a total of fifteen individual achievements. These are easily achieved if your scout is an active den member. After the five achievements are complete, he will officially earn his Tiger Rank! He can then work on his Bobcat badge, which is reguired to advance to the next level- WOLF. Parents must read the Tiger handbook completely to understand requirements needed.
Wolf Cub Scout:
The Wolf den is for boys in the second grade or who are 8 years old. The Wolf Cub Scout wears the blue Cub Scout shirt with a yellow neckerchief. The Wolf Cub must first earn his Bobcat badge before advancing to his Wolf achievements. After attaining his Bobcat, he may continue on and work towards his Wolf rank. The Wolf rank is a total of 12 achievements. These achievements touch on various subjects and interests for the boys. When all 12 achievements are complete, he has officially earned his Wolf rank. He may then work on arrow points until he becomes a Bear Cub. Parents must read the Wolf handbook completely to understand the requirements needed.
Bear Cub Scout:
The Bear den is for those boys in third grade or who are 9 years old. The Bear Cub wears the blue Cub Scout shirt with a blue neckerchief. The Bear must earn the Bobcat badge, unless already earned, before he starts work on his Bear requirements. The Bear rank also has 12 achievements required to earn the rank. These, like the Wolf, are on various subjects and interests. When the 12 achievements are completed, he has officially earned his Bear rank. He may then work on arrow points until becoming a Webelos scout. Parents must read the Bear handbook completely to understand the requirements needed.
Webelos Scout (1st year and 2nd year):
The Webelos dens are broken into two groups. First year Webelos are fourth grade or 10 years old. Second year Webelos are fifth grade or 11 years old. Webelos may wear either the blue Cub Scout shirt OR the tan Boy Scout shirt. New Webelos are encouraged to wear the tan shirt. The Webelos program is a little bit more detailed that the other dens. The Webelos scout is only a few steps away from becoming a Boy Scout! The Bobcat badge must first be earned then the Webelos badge may be earned. Then the Arrow of Light can be achieved. The Arrow of Light is the highest rank in Cub Scouting and is a very coveted achievement! It is the ONLY Cub Scout rank that can be carried over to a Boy Scout uniform. It is recommended that the parent read in detail the entire Webelos handbook. Webelos dens will have a detailed orientation prior to starting work.
Nuggets of knowledge regarding advancement:
- Read your son's book before starting anything!
- If you have a question, your book most likely answers it!
- If your book does not answer your question, ask the Advancement Specialist or the Cubmaster.
- Your sons' advancement is primarily dependent upon YOU!
- It is NOT the den leaders job to automatically advance his den. Even though your den will work on advancement, your son will only advance with the PARENTS help!
